The Role of Youth in Promoting Peace and Human Rights:

Some of the UNESCO Clubs and United Nations Youth and Student Association Nepal (UNYSAN) jointly organized a talk programme on "The Role of Youth in Promoting Peace and Human Rights in Nepal" to celebrated the 58th Anniversary of the "Human Right Day" in Co-operation with National Confederation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations in Nepal, UNYSAN and People to People, Nepal.

Mr. Arjun Bahadur Bhandari, Joint-Secretary, Ministry of Education and Sports was the Chief Guest on the occasion where as Mr. Bhim Lal Gurung, Deputy Secretary General, Nepal National Commission for UNESCO and Mr. Sagar Chandra Khaling, Chairmain, Kanti Child Hospital were the Guests of honor at this programme. On the occasion addressing the programme Chief Guest Mr. Arjun Bahadur Bhandari, Joint-Secretary, Ministry of Education and Sports said that "youth of Nepal have greater responsibility and role not only in strengthening peace and human right in Nepal but also in eradicating the evils of HIV/AIDS. Drug Abuse and non-violence in order to build a prosperous and non-violent society in Nepal".

Mr. Bhim Lal Gurung, Deputy Secretary General, Nepal National Commission for UNESCO said that "Peace and Human Right can be promoted and protected in a society where youth mobilize their energy and intellect towards constructive works and commit themselves to play a role of an agent of positive transformation".

Mr. Sagar Chandra Khaling, Chairmain, Kanti Child Hospital said that "Youth should come forward to protect and promote right of all the people including those who belong to low cast and marginalized section".

Shedding light on the goals and programme of PTP, Nepal, Asso. Prof. Dambar Bir Thapa, President, People to People, Nepal said that" People to People International is one of the most leading international organization committed to promote and protect peace through International understanding and organizing humanitarian activities. Youth have to play an important role in safeguarding human rights, fundamental freedom and human dignity to create a society in which people, irrespective of cast, creed, sex and ideology can live together in peace and prosperity".

Mrs. Rajani Sigdel, Principal, Bhanubhakta Memorial H.S. School, lauded the role of People to People, Nepal in promoting peace through international understanding and said "PTPI is a people movement committed to protecting human rights, peace and non-violence:.

Mr. Sanjay Bir Thapa. Pesident of UNYSAN said that "As youth are the pillars of the nation and builder of golden future they have to channelise their enthusiasm energy towards building and international society in envisioned in the constitution of People to People International and in the preamble of UNESCO".

Mr. Damodar Sharma, President, National Federation of UNESCO NGO's of Nepal, Mr. Chandra Singh Kulung, President, Chula Chuli UNESCO Club, Mr Bishwa Raj Kirat, President, Paruhang-Suminma UNESCO Club, Mrs, Chandika Lamichhane, President, Jeetpur UNESCO Club, Mr. Nawa Raj Rai, President, Nepal Community UNESCO Club and Madan Kumar Mahato, Joint-Secretary, Bhimsen UNESCO Club and Member, People to People, Nepal also threw light on different aspects of the role that the youth of Nepal have been playing in nation building activities and stressed on the importance of the youth role to build peace and promote human rights in Nepal.

Both National Confederations of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations in Nepal and People to People, Nepal have a policy to promote youth and involve them in activities designed to promote peace and human right, international understanding, non-violence etc.
